Expanded Look at Battle School for @SummitEnt ENDERS GAME
When you are a fan, it means a lot that something you love will come life before your eyes. You take a moment to re-read a book, to look at all the facts, to hope that they will catch those nuances that make the book unique to you.
I was excited when I was invited to the set of Ender’s Game.
I guess the thing about it for me was, my Grandmother used to read me the book. She would curl up and read me chapters of the book, and tell me that the world was mine for the taking. That at any age and any time, you could do what you wanted. You could be anything that you needed to be.
When we went to New Orleans and walked on set, there was moment that took over you. This moment where you stopped and said, “Am I at Battle School?”
We stopped and spoke first with producers. They weren’t men and women in suits, but fans just like us, who could tell you about every page of the book, everything that should remain, and each one exhibited a passion for the movie unlike any producer I have ever met. And I have met quite a few.
They talked to us about the importance of staying true to the book, showed us pictures, told us their ideas. They entrusted parts of their vision to us, so that we could know that what they were doing was staying faithful to Ender.
We were able to walk around and see sets that blew you away. There was no detail to big or to small that they were not adamant about getting right.
The actors took just as much pride. They all seemed to get along, to tell us about their friendships, but also about how much they loved the world that Orson Scott Card had created. Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, even Sir Ben Kingsley took the time to tell us about the movie and the experiences.
I have been on quite a few movie sets in the past few years. I have seen people that have taken the time to adapt the book and stay true to it, and those that haven’t.
I can’t wait to tell you about the time that I spent on the Enders Game set. I can’t wait to tell you about sets, conversations with director, the uniforms… everything. You name it. I can’t wait to tell you all about it. I am proud to be a part of the Enders Game fandom, and so grateful that the producers took the time to take such a beautiful story and bring it to life so purely.
Until I can tell you more, I will share this new still from Enders Game with you today and an expanded look at Battle School.
